The Regina Senior Mixed Slo-Pitch league provides an opportunity for women aged 50 or over and men aged 55 or over [both in the current year] to continue to play ball in a relatively non-competitive atmosphere. The league is designed to provide an equal opportunity for players of all skill levels. It also provides an opportunity for some exercise and team fellowship as well as meeting some new people with the same interest in playing ball.
Games are played at the Regina Girls Softball Diamonds at Broad Street and 9th Avenue North on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9:00 A.M. and 10:30 A.M. Rainout games will be rescheduled and will be posted on the website under "RAINOUTS".
In exchange for our use of the diamonds, our league is committed to providing volunteers to staff an admission gate at three of the Regina Girls Softball League Tournaments. Players are requested to work one 2 hour shift at a specific tournament.
League fees are $60.00 per season which includes a minimum 24 game schedule, a free windup luncheon for players, insurance, yearly membership in the Saskatchewan Senior Fitness Association [SSFA] and use of a team shirt, bats and balls.
League rules are based on SSFA 55 Plus Zone and Provincial Slo-Pitch Rules. In-house rules are posted on the website under "LEAGUE RULES".
The League recommends that players do a little work to prepare for the upcoming season including some throwing, warm-up and stretching exercises and possibly some light running. It is also recommended that, prior to games, in addition to the tradition of playing catch with a team mate, players warm-up the muscles and joints followed by stretching as this helps to prevent those nagging aches and pains, or, even worse, an injury.
The intent is for all players to enjoy themselves, meet some new people and stay healthy.
As stated above, the league is for players of all skill levels but playing ball requires some basic skills including catching, throwing, hitting a ball and some running. While none of are as young or skilled as we used to be, this league may not be a good fit for those who do not have basic ball skills or knowledge of the game.
